Film poster art and design from Japan is renowned as being among the most striking and dynamic in the world, with kanji logograms adding an extra dimension of graphic integration for the Western eye.
TOKYO CINEGRAPHIX is a book series which aims to represent some of the very best film posters created in Japan, both for indigenous films and also for foreign imports. The posters are featured in full-colour, full-page reproductions.
PINKU EIGA (“pink film”) was a term popularized by Japanese production companies to promote the line of sexploitation movies they developed in the 1960s to the early 1970s, “pink film” quickly becoming established as an equivalent term to the West’s “blue movies”. A ban on showing genitalia in pink cinema caused a shift towards fetishism, bondage and sadism.
CINEGRAPHIX JAPAN VOLUME TWO showcases Japanese posters for 40 domestically produced pink films, dating from 1967 to 1987.
